Your Journey As A New Leader
Step 1: Research
Before you start running an event its helpful to get familiar with the mmc program. Ensure you are logged into your MMC account to explore!
· Check out the videos as well as the clubs that care leader resources to support you on this journey.
· The questions to ask yourself when booking an event is a great place to start.
· Purchasing Items: If you are purchasing a 3d printer you want to place that order well before your event date to ensure you can get all materials ready in time.
· Outreach/Devices: It can be helpful to reach out to community members here to see what devices are needed to help you with your event planning. Check out our outreach resource for help with this.
MMC support
· Every quarter we will be running a talk to us Tuesday webinar. Check out the events tab to see when the next webinar is.
· You can also join the discord to ask questions to fellow clubs that care leaders.
· Reach out to mmc staff info@makersmakingchange.com to answer any questions.
Step 2: Plan your event
It is important you are giving yourself enough time to order materials and time for printing devices.
· It is important to leave time to get all the parts together for everyone who is attending. 3D printing can take hours, so make sure you leave yourself enough time to complete this step.
· You will want to familiarize yourself with the build event instructions and solder safety tips so that you can better support your volunteers at the event.
· Prepare a slideshow or practice your presentation ahead of time. It is important to explain the safety instructions as well as offer support on the steps for the builds
· Recruit volunteer members to join your club for events and activities. To inform people of your club, hang posters in your school or on a community bulletin board, make a post on social media, etc. Make sure you have an idea of how many people will be attending so you can set up enough build stations.
· Where are you planning to host your event? Make sure they will allow soldering and have enough outlets.
Step 3: Run your event
· Check out the event checklist resource.
· Arrive early to set up for the event
· Lay out materials at each station, plug in extension cords, etc. Don’t plug in soldering irons yet! People may not know they are on and burn themselves.
· Support your volunteers through the build of the devices. Most importantly, remember to have fun!
Step 4: Report in Activity Portal
· Report attendees and devices built in the activity portal
· Quality check the devices and start the delivery process
